A lot of my two legged compadres claim that the whole of dogkind is comprised of simple, straightforward creatures, and I don’t blame them for their naivety… The popular phrase to associate with dogs is “eat, play, wag, love, repeat,” after all. But are we really all that transparent?
Let me bring the paper to you silly hoomans & serve the news straight up: we’re not. How could a species that needs to be decoded by some enchanted whisperer named Caesar even be considered as such? We are altogether complicated, requiring tailor-made diets, exercise regimens, training classes, special medications… Our nails must be trimmed with extra attention, else we will run for it and not care what or who we take out along the way… Our body languages must be understood with just as much care and sometimes even more, as canine movements & expressions can incite everything from friendly camaraderie to all-out warfare at the dog park. This list could go on and on, but the overall idea remains the same: humans need to figure us out for their own benefit, as we are super perplexing.
Luckily, there are in fact swarms of bipedals who recognize this and work to educate their less mindful counterparts with infographics galore! And so I bring to you a specially curated selection of these instructional images, the Encyclopedia Doggographica. I have divided them up into specific categories to make your search for clarity easier, so view at your leisure and, most of all, enjoy figuring us out!
